Who We Are
School of Food was founded in 2010 by Alastair Instone. Alastair is a professionally-trained cook who has many years' experience as a private chef in luxury ski chalets, private homes and aboard superyachts.
He was driven to develop the School of Food teaching method - classes in your own kitchen, with a focus on teaching a thorough understanding of cookery, rather than a reliance on recipes - by problems with traditional cookery schools and a desire to improve the way we learn cookery.
Alastair is the lead tutor for School of Food.
What We Do
School of Food's mission is to teach cookery in a fun, approachable way. We focus on teaching delicious, fresh, modern cuisine with a big emphasis on understanding how to put ingredients and flavours together. Our students do not just learn to follow recipes, they learn to understand food.
We have a broad range of classes, suitable for cooks of all levels, all of which are taught in our clients' home kitchens.
